Teacher asked to repay city for
wrestling on sick days

NEW YORK (AP) _ A Queens high school teacher has been asked to reimburse the city
for taking sick days to perform as a professional wrestler.

Matthew Kaye, 31, called in sick 11 days in December and February when he was on a
wrestling tour for the World Wrestling Entertainment, city investigators said.

Kaye allegedly told school officials he was taking sick leave to take care of an ill
sister, and on several occasions provided doctors' notes. But investigators later
discovered his wrestling Web site with tour dates listed for the days he called out sick.

Kaye, who taught at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens, resigned in April after
investigators tried to interview him about his second career.

Schools Special Investigator Richard Condon recommended that Kaye not be hired for
any future teaching positions and that he pay the city back for wrestling on sick days.
