Teacher accused of harassment quits

RIVERSIDE -- A math teacher at Riverside-Brookfield High School, who taught at the school for 13 years, resigned after female students
accused him of verbal sexual harassment, school officials said.

The teacher was suspended on Nov. 11 after students informed school officials about the alleged harassment. The board accepted the
resignation before they could decide the teacher's fate at its next meeting.

District 208 School Board President Larry Herbst said multiple female students complained.

"We have never had a problem with this teacher before nor has he been accused of allegations like this in the past," he said. "He was an
excellent teacher and one of the best in his department," said Herbst.

Herbst said the district takes all allegations of sexual harassment seriously. "We were still investigating and interviewing students to understand
clearly what happened," he said.

The Tribune is not naming the teacher because he has not been charged.
