| Pembroke teacher placed on leave Probe focuses on link to student By Jennifer Nelson, [Boston] Globe Correspondent | June 3, 2005 A Pembroke High School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave while police investigate allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, Pembroke school officials and police said last night. Allegations of a sexual relationship between the teacher and a male student surfaced late last week, said Michael Tropeano, chairman of the Pembroke School Committee. Police took over the investigation yesterday, he said. ''When allegations surfaced, we obviously investigated, and during the course of our investigation and our process of how we handle personnel issues, the police notified us that they were going to get involved," Tropeano said. Neither the teacher nor the student was identified. In a statement, Police Chief Gregory Wright said the name of the teacher will not be released ''unless evidence is developed that will support a criminal complaint." Tropeano said the School Committee and police were not taking the situation lightly. ''This is something we take extremely seriously for both the student and the employee," Tropeano said. ''When the final report comes, we'll take whatever action needs to be done." http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/06/03/pembroke_teache r_placed_on_leave?mode=PF |
