One day after a still-at-large-sniper shot at an upper Manhattan school, education
officials said they are beefing up security to protect students.

Additional school-safety agents were dispatched to IS 218 in Inwood yesterday after
slugs shattered two windows there Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

In addition, parents received a note informing them of the incident and urging them to
talk about it with their children.

No one was injured in the 2:30 p.m. shootings. The 200 summer-school students had
already left for the day, and the 100 youngsters who attend camp there were in a
neighboring park, said Kelly Devers, a Department of Education spokeswoman.

"I was mad scared when the cops told me what happened," said eighth-grade summer
student Katherine Calderon, 14. "I was scared to come in the building."

She said she noticed extra police when she arrived for classes yesterday.

"That made me feel better," she said.
