Police: Sex Claims Against Shakopee Teacher
Bridgette Bornstein
Reporting

(WCCO) A junior high school teacher in Shakopee, Minn. is under investigation for possible criminal sexual conduct, police said.

Shakopee police got involved in the case and handed it over to Eden Prairie police, because police believe at least one incident happened in
that city.

Eden Prairie police told WCCO-TV they are looking into allegations of sexual misconduct between a male teacher and a juvenile female student.

Police believe there was more than one incident, so there could be multiple charges.

"Basically, what we have is a person of authority having a relationship with a juvenile," said Jim Bergstrom, a detective with the Eden Prairie
Police Department. "You just can't do that in any state."

The school is investigating the allegations, authorities said. The teacher was put on paid leave last Friday, which is routine in an investigation
such as this.

WCCO-TV contacted Shakopee's Superintendent of Schools, who was unable to discuss details of the case, such as the grade the girl is in or
what subject the man teaches. That's in part to protect their identities.

Eden Prairie police are reviewing the case and said they would recommend charging the teacher with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a
felony.

Charges would ultimately be at the discretion of the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
