Former high school teacher sued, charged with sex with student June 8, 2005 MEMPHIS, Tenn. The guardian of a Memphis girl has filed a five-(m)-million-dollar lawsuit against former Fairly High School band director Maurice White. A court affidavit states White told police he had sex with the girl, who was then 14, in 2004. White was fired by the city school system in February after he was charged with statutory rape. The lawsuit also claims the then- 28-year-old White infected the student with a sexually transmitted disease. The lawsuit also names school superintendent Carol Johnson, the high school principal and two teachers, claiming they knew about the relationship but didn't act to protect the girl. White is free on 50-thousand dollars bond. The criminal case against him is before a Shelby County grand jury. http://www.volunteertv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3446319 |
