School Mix-Up Puts Girl In Wrong Car,
Boy On Bus

A mix-up at a Sanford elementary school is being investigated after a teacher put a
girl in a wrong car at school pickup instead of a boy who was also mistakenly put on
a school bus, according to Local 6 News.

Antoine Jones said he went to Wicklow Elementary School Monday to pick up his
4-year-old son after the first day of school.

When he arrived, teachers put a little girl, who he did not know, in his backseat
instead of his son.

"The next thing I knew was my back door opened and some girl climbs in the car with
a teacher holding the door for her," Jones said.

"And it's not your child?" Local 6 News reporter Erik von Ancken said.

"Not my child," Jones said.

Jones said his son Andrew could not be found and he began to panic, Local 6 News
reported.

"I asked them, where Andrew was and the teacher told me that they had put him on a
bus earlier when school let out," Jones said.

Jones said the teachers did not know which bus Andrew was put on, Local 6 News
reported.

A homeowner eventually found Andrew crying and scared after he was let off the
school bus in a neighborhood, Local 6 News reported.

Andrew was then driven to a nearby high school, where a school administrator
contacted the elementary school.

"It could have had bad consequences if someone who was not nice picked him up,"
mother Stephanie Jones said.

"The principal apologized, but he didn't have an answer for me." Antoine Jones said.
"And that's what really concerns me, because it could happen again. Could happen to
anyone."

The school district's public information officer explained the incident as a
communications mix up and that they were looking into it, Local 6 News reported.
