Police receive letter threatening school violence June 15, 2005, 7:55 AM EDT Newsday.com MILFORD, Conn. -- Police are investigating a threat of violence on the last day of school contained in an anonymous note mailed to the police department. The hand written note threatens a violent retaliation by a student who had been bullied, according to Officer Vaughan Dumas, a police spokesman. "It does not have any specifics," Dumas said Tuesday. "It was a letter that was sent that directed violence not against any particular person or place. It's just a note." The letter was received late Monday and the State Police Forensic Science Lab is analyzing it, Dumas said. The U.S. Postal Service is trying to determine the letter's origin and the FBI has been notified. Threatening notes have occasionally surfaced in school before, but Dumas said this was the first time someone mailed one directly to police. School spokesman Kathy Bonetti said all parents would be notified of the situation through an automated voice phone message system Tuesday evening. Mayor James L. Richetelli Jr. said he was briefed on the threat and "its very unfortunate" but all city officials are treating it seriously. The last day of classes for city public schools is June 23. The last day for Platt Technical High School is June 20. http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/connecticut/ny-bc-ct--schoolthreat0615jun15, 0,3918556.story?coll=ny-region-apconnecticut |
