Prince George's County School Board
Receives Audit
Audit Of Technology Contracts Involving Hornsby Completed
POSTED: 4:38 pm EDT June 3, 2005

WASHINGTON -- On Friday, the Prince George's County, Md., school board received a
copy of an audit of technology contracts involving former schools chief Dr. Andre
Hornsby.

The school board is expected to make the results of the audit public soon, along with
any response from Hornsby. He abruptly resigned his post last week.

The FBI is investigating Hornsby's approval of a $1 million contract with a software
company that employed his girlfriend as a sales representative. Hornsby denies any
wrongdoing.

The school system in Prince George's County is facing several other problems, as
well. The county must finish work on a new high school in Upper Marlboro that is
projected to be $13 million over budget. And the schools must trim $40 million from its
requested budget for the coming year.

Next year, the school board is expected to change again as it switches back from an
appointed board to an elected one.
