Audit Finds Money Missing From York
High School
June 28, 2005

An investigation by the Auditor General's Office found approximately $3,000 missing
from a student activity account at William Penn Senior High School.

The school district requested assistance after officials found irregularities with
checks issued from the account.

The investigation focused on the time period when the current treasurer has been
responsible for the account, from July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2004.

More than $2,800 was discovered missing from concessions sales at high school
football games and $216 missing from the Asian Culture Clubs, according to a press
release on the investigation.

The report state that a calculation of the missing funds "could not be made because of
poor bookkeeping and missing records among many of the student groups lodging
complaints," according to the press release.

The findings of the audit have been referred to the York County district attorney for a
criminal investigation.
