A 28-year-old elementary school teacher in Orange County, Fla., was arrested Tuesday on suspicion he sexually abused a teenage girl.
Police said Lawton Chiles Elementary school teacher Gareth Godfrey was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff's Office sex crimes unit at the
school.
Deputies said Godfrey made sexual advances on the 15-year-old girl, dating back to April when he took her to the Wet N' Wild theme park and
suggested something could happen between them, Local 6 News Chris Trenkmann said.
Investigators said in May, Godfrey French kissed the girl and exposed himself to her. He later drove her in his car, with his son in the back seat
and sexually molested her, according to police.
The girl told her mother about the alleged incidents on Sunday.
"It was a friend of the family," Orange County sheriff's Sgt. Richard Mankewich said. "He also took advantage of the friendship and took
advantage of the little girl."
Detectives said Godfrey confessed to the crime in a taped phone call. He allegedly also offered $10,000 to the girl if she would remain quiet,
Trenkmann said.
Godfrey was charged with lewd or lascivious molestation Tuesday. No other details were released.
