WEST BEND, Wis. - A Germantown high school teacher pleaded not guilty Monday to
allegations that he sexually assaulted two students.

A trial for James E. Catalano was set for early November in Washington County Circuit
Court.

Catalano, 33, allegedly sexually assaulted two 16-year-old female students last fall in
a school office, once while a class was under way in a room next door, according to an
April criminal complaint.

Catalano pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of sexual assault of a student by a
school staff member, and one felony count of child enticement.

If convicted, Catalano could be imprisoned for 37 years and fined $120,000.

Catalano is on unpaid administrative leave because a court order prohibits him from
contact with students or staff at the school.

The Germantown School Board recently rejected a request by the teacher's union to
reinstate Catalano's teaching salary of $41,701.

Catalano taught physical science and was an assistant football and track coach.
