| August 9, 2005 Former coach gets probation for having sex with student Source: AP FORT WORTH, Texas -- A former assistant high school football coach who set several records as New Mexico State's quarterback in the early 1990s has been sentenced to ten years' probation for having a sexual relationship with a female student. In a plea deal, 32-year-old Cody Ledbetter surrendered his Texas teaching certificate and agreed to no contact with the teenage girl or any other minor in the future. He also agreed to undergo counseling. If Ledbetter successfully completes his probation, the felony conviction will be removed from his record. Ledbetter was a standout quarterback and track star at Stephenville High School in Texas. He played at New Mexico State from 1991 to 1995, setting records for most passing yards, most pass attempts, most pass completions and passing touchdowns.
