VIRGINIA BEACH — A Brandon Middle School teacher was arrested Monday at the school and charged with being drunk in public.

Police spokeswoman Margie Long said police went to Brandon Middle School around noon, after school administrators noticed Cynthia B.
White, 58, acting strangely.

Police did not provide additional details on White’s arrest. They did not say what White did to provoke the administrators’ suspicion. She has
worked in the Virginia Beach Public Schools system for 19 years.

The case is under investigation by the school resource officer. Meanwhile, White was put on paid administrative leave. School employees under
the influence of alcohol on school property during school hours can be dismissed, under School Board policy.
