CHEYENNE - A former Carey Junior High School teacher and girls basketball coach who admitted inappropriately touching a 14-year-old girl
has been sentenced to a year in jail.
Howard Evans, 44, of Cheyenne, pleaded guilty in March to one felony charge of third-degree sexual assault and one misdemeanor count of
sexual battery.
Evans, who resigned from his teaching job, admitted that he twice touched the girl inappropriately, including once while they "slow-danced."
The girl lived in his neighborhood, and their families attended the same church. Evans also knew the girl as a student, and prosecutors said he
lured the girl to his home under the guise of offering baby-sitting jobs.
Evans also called the girl frequently on her cell phone, they said.
