Man Sues Over Daughter's Alleged Attack By NICK JULIANO, Associated Press Writer Tue Jun 7,11:11 PM ET The father of a mentally disabled girl who says she was sexually assaulted in a high school auditorium has sued the school district, the school board and the former principal. Gary Shroyer, the father's lawyer, would not discuss specifics of the case in an interview Tuesday night. He said a news conference was planned for Wednesday. Gayle Saunders, an assistant to the superintendent, said district officials cannot comment on pending litigation. The 16-year-old girl told Mifflin High administrators that at least two boys dragged her into the auditorium and forced her to perform oral sex on March 9. Two boys face juvenile felony counts of rape, sexual battery and kidnapping. Both have denied the charges. The case generated criticism because school officials did not immediately report the allegations to police, with an assistant principal saying he feared negative media attention. Principal Regina Crenshaw has been charged with failing to notify police. She was fired by the school district and is appealing. Her lawyer did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the lawsuit. Three assistant principals were suspended and reassigned after the alleged assault. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050608/ap_on_re_us/students_sexual_assault_1 |
