| Former Akron-Area Teacher Arrested At University Of Arizona Fri Oct 28, 6:57 PM ET Police tracked a former Cuyahoga Falls teacher to the University of Arizona and arrested him on campus after allegations surface about his involvement with a female student. Brian Ebie was arrested Monday and is now charged with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. The allegations against Ebie came out long after he left Ohio for the University of Arizona, where he moved up the ladder quickly to become assistant dean in the college of fine arts. Ebie was a music teacher at Roberts Middle School in 1999 when police say he began a consensual sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl. She came forward two years ago, but was reluctant to press charges until now. "She has been talking to counselors, family members and confiding with other family friends, and she feels strong enough to pursue charges," said Lt. Rick Edwards, of the Akron Police Department. When the Cuyahoga Falls School District heard about the case, it went to the prosecutor, then to the Ohio Board of Education. "The most we could do at that time was go after his teaching license to prevent him from teaching again in Ohio," said Cuyahoga Falls Superintendent Edwin Holland. The University of Arizona Web site has already withdrawn any mention of Ebie. If convicted, Ebie could be sentenced to 10 years in prison. Ebie remains in an Arizona jail awaiting extradition to Ohio, where he'll face felony charges in Akron. http://news.yahoo.com/s/wews/20051028/lo_wews/3026557 ------------- |
