| August 12, 2005 Teacher, school officials named in abuse claim By the Associated Press LOVINGSTON, Va. -- The mother of a girl who was sexually assaulted by her teacher is seeking $10.7 million in damages from the former teacher and $6.75 million from three Nelson County school administrators. The lawsuit, filed Thursday, names Michael Wayne Allee, 36, of Lynchburg, who pleaded guilty eight months ago to misdemeanor charges of sexual battery and assault and battery in a plea deal. The two charges stemmed from an October 2003 incident in which authorities said Allee improperly touched the girl, who was 11 at the time and a student at Nelson Middle School. Allee taught among three localities while working as a teacher between 2001 and 2003 and has been named in several sexual complaints from children. The lawsuit states, "Mr. Allee is a sexual abuser of female children. He has no business being near any girls, let along being their teacher and in a position of authority over them." Nelson County Superintendent Roger Collins, one of the administrators named in the suit, declined comment. "It is not our practice to comment on any possible litigation involving the school system," he said. The suit was filed in Nelson County Circuit Court. http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/virginia/dp-va--abusesuit0812aug12,0,5356909.st ory?coll=dp-headlines-virginia |
