Sat, Jun 25, 2005 Ex-teacher gets 10 months in jail for sex assault By Matt Ollwerther For the Wausau Daily Herald MEDFORD - A former Rib Falls High School teacher was sentenced Friday morning to 10 months in jail for sexually assaulting two male students in 2001. Marathon County Circuit Court Judge Patrick Brady also sentenced the man, Darin C. Anderson, 42, to 15 years of probation. The assault took place on Nov. 30, 2001, when Anderson invited two of his male students, then 17, to his home. Once they arrived, he encouraged them to drink alcohol, eat pizza and watch pornographic videos. He assaulted the boys separately while they slept in his bed during the night. The boys said they were afraid to leave during the night, when later questioned by authorities. Anderson was convicted in Marathon County court April 14. The jury deliberated for more than four hours before returning guilty verdicts on half of the original eight counts against Anderson. He was found guilty of two counts of child enticement and two counts of sexual assault of a student by school staff. He was acquitted of two counts of exposing genitals to a child and two counts of causing a child to view sexual activity. Two of the charges against Anderson were specific to sexual assaults by school staff. Other conditions of his sentence include: • Work release, including counseling • No contact with the victims or their families • No unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18 • No involvement in work or volunteer activities with children under age 18 • Sex offender treatment and other counseling as deemed appropriate by the probation agent and • AODA assessment and treatment plan, alcohol abstinence http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/wdhlocal/296892604799439.shtml |
